HT MACROPRO is an innovative antioxidant polymer to be used as an active compound. This raw material protects hair from oxidizing agents and has a protective activity against UV radiation.

HT-MACROPRO is an active polymeric compound of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), a polymer characterized by high stability and film-forming properties that ensure better adhesion to the hair, combined with hydroxytyrosol.

HYDROXYTYROSOL

Hydroxytyrosol is the active ingredient of olive and functions as a highly potent antioxidant. Antioxidants are bioactive molecules present in many plants, but not all show the same activity. Hydroxytyrosol is considered one of the most powerful antioxidants and is experiencing rapid growth in market demand. Antioxidants are often used in cosmetics to protect the skin or hair from harmful environmental influences.

HT-MACROPRO: THE POWER OF A SUPERIOR ANTIOXIDANT

To evaluate the antioxidant effect of HT-MACROPRO, further tests have been conducted.

1) Determination of functionalization degree using the Folin-Ciocalteau assay

The Folin-Ciocalteau assay was used as a preliminary determination of the amount of HT in the conjugate. It is based on a complex redox reaction with phosphotungstic and phosphomolybdic acids present in the Folin-Ciocalteau reagent. The content of monophenolic groups is expressed in mg equivalent of functionalizing antioxidants per gram of compound, with a value of 3.3 mg/g.

2) DPPH Radical Scavenging Assay

DPPH• is one of the few commercially available organic nitrogen radicals with a maximum absorption band around 515–528 nm. The DPPH assay has become popular in antioxidant studies due to its simplicity and high sensitivity. DPPH• accepts an electron or hydrogen radical to become a stable diamagnetic molecule, and the antioxidant effect is proportional to the disappearance of DPPH• in the test samples.

The HT-MACROPRO clearly exhibits a high antioxidant power, with an inhibition value of 57% using a 1% solution of HT-MACROPRO in water.

To evaluate the protective effect of HT-MACROPRO on human hair, HT-MACROPRO was used as a preservative agent after hair coloring. The colored hair samples were treated with a lotion containing HT-MACROPRO (1% by weight) and then exposed to UV stress. The observed results show that the sample treated with HT-MACROPRO maintains its color, while a significant loss of color was recorded in the control sample, confirming the efficacy of the proposed system.
