Tamarind Extract is obtained from the Tamarindus indica plant, a member of the Leguminosae family (Cesalpinoideae), native to Africa and southern Asia. The virtues of tamarind are many: the pulp and seeds were used in the form of an infusion or decoction in inflammatory gastric fevers.

A gum, known precisely as tamarind gum, consisting of heterogeneous polysaccharides, is made from the seeds, which are contained in the pulp.

Tamarind is a rich source of various bioactive compounds such as phenolic antioxidants, proteins, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, vitamins, volatile components, organic acids, fatty acids, minerals and many others. T. indica has
incredible medicinal properties . Many people use different parts of this plant for popular treatments of various ailments. Multiple medicines have already been produced using different parts of this species, in fact it is used as an important component of blood sugar lowering medicines.

Tamarind also has, potential in the production of numerous industrial products such as tamarind pulp powder,
tamarind juice concentrate, tamarind kernel powder, tartaric acid , tartarates, pectin and alcohol. Therefore, this species requires protection and conservation.(1)

Several studies have shown that, Tamarindus indica seed extract, containing botanical antioxidants, shows potent anti-aging effects when applied locally. An increase in the water content of the stratum corneum has been observed, which in turn gives a smoother appearance and protects the skin from aging.
