“Dragon’s blood” is a precious resin with a characteristic red color that is obtained from the bark of the Croton Lechleri plant, a flowering plant belonging to the euphorbia family, Euphorbiaceae, native to northwestern South America.
For centuries it has been used in folk medicine for its healing, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial effectiveness and powerful antioxidant qualities. This resin is also known for its anti-aging, regenerating, antioxidant and highly hydrating properties which make it ideal for inclusion in cosmetic formulations.
Important active ingredients make “dragon’s blood” unique and in fact more than 90% of the dry weight of the resin is made up of phenolic compounds, including proanthocyanidins and catechins. Subsequently, the alkaloid taspine and the lignan 3,4-O-dimethylcedrusin were also isolated, respectively responsible for the anti-inflammatory and healing activities linked to the Croton Lechleri resin.
Dragon’s Blood EG was developed to be included in anti-aging skincare products and various efficacy tests were carried out in order to evaluate the regenerating, hydrating and protective action against inflammation.
